Waterfall Rappelling in the Pocono Mountains

I initially planned for us to spend our July date going whitewater rafting in Jim Thorpe, but found this really great deal on Groupon & Living Social that I could not give up. This activity begs you to answer the question: why not throw yourself down a waterfall?
There is nothing more exhilarating than the start of summer; the wind in your hair, sun in your face, and us throwing ourselves down a waterfall in the Poconos. I mean really, what could possibly go wrong?

Our Engagement at Hawk Falls

I love a good engagement story, what about you?

One of the BEST things about the Lehigh Valley is that it is close to everything. You want the mountains? We have the Pocono’s with the Appalachian Trail. You want big cities? We have New York City and Philadelphia just 90 minutes away. Over here we get the best of both worlds. Adam and I, however are more outdoors folk. The Pocono’s is great for hiking and waterfalls. It’s pretty much a hop, skip, and a jump away.

About four years ago Adam wanted to plan something special for my 23rd Birthday. We do not usually make a big deal out of Birthday’s and aren’t big into celebrations. Red flags went up. Wait, we are DOING something for my Birthday this year? This seems odd, but I’ll go with it. In my mind, all signs pointed to an engagement, but I pretended to know nothing. He started researching waterfalls. I love waterfalls and hiking, probably more than anybody else, but during the winter in the Poconos, he had to find ones that were easily accessible (there was still snow on the ground!)

Waterfalls at the Delaware Water Gap

We had a plan. We need to hike. We haven’t gone hiking in a long time. We’ll pack up the car, take the dogs, and go hiking to see some waterfalls at the Delaware Water Gap in the Poconos. There was one that was on the top of my list: Factory Falls, that I kept seeing pictures over and over again. I grew up in the Poconos, near the Delaware Water Gap, but never got a chance to explore it.

We put Brady and Harvey in the car, gave them Dramamine 30 minutes before we are going to leave, and hope for the best. You see, Harvey is always car sick.

Meet Harvey:
